K. Renee' Robertson, D.Min.
"I'm not living my best life. My best life is external." - Dr. K. Renee Robertson, Chaplain
At the age of 10, K. Renee' Robertson began to walk in the foot steps of powerful women who treaded a path for her to follow. In the late 70's, she along with more than 2000 others marched over four miles in support of extending parts of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Led by Rev. Jesse Jackson, she recalls chanting along with her parents, “I Am Somebody” as they marched from her future alma mater, Strom Thurmond High School to the Edgefield County Courthouse.
It was at Strom Thurmond High School in 1989 at the still segregated social activities and school proms that she would become the first African - American, Miss Statesman (Miss Strom Thurmond High School) during her senior year. She was then faced with racial opposition through threats, isolation and the intentional public display of the Confederate flag during school activities. With the influence of her village which included Rev. Hosea Williams and her first boss, the legendary James Brown, she went on to receive countless awards for her direct action, her community service efforts and for her performing arts talents during her collegiate years. Some of which included Miss Black USA International, Miss Paine College, named as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Black College Students, the Points of Life Award and the “People Who Care” Award to list only a few.
K. Renee' Robertson, D.Min. continued to work for the common good. From the early 2000's to 2018, she served as the National Director of Public Affairs and Media for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and also served as the Executive Director of the SCLC/W.O.M.E.N., Inc. Upon the wishes of her mentor, The Matriarch of the Voters Rights Act, Dr. Amelia Boynton-Robinson, she helped to establish The Amelia Boynton-Robinson Foundation. Dr. Robertson is the President of the United Nations Association of Georgia/Carolinas, where she is dedicated to the grass-root and global principles for the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to positively impact the lives of current and future generations through service and the arts.
